Pork Pie Charity Run 2011 Done

porkpie-mapOnce again Lee, Tracey, Simon & Emma made the epic trip in their minis from Kaitaia to Invercargill, raising funds along the way for the Starship children's hospital.

On our last trip in 2009 we had the goal of raising funds towards a blood oxygen monitor used when operating on infants. Thanks to the generosity of supporters the Porkpie crew were able to purchase two of these machines outright! A fantastic achievement that has been of benefit to over 300 children to date.

This time around the Pediatric Intensive Care unit (PICU) urgently needs funding for four Transport Stretchers to be used when a sudden illness or accident means a child needs to be rushed to Starship by air ambulance. Each year upwards of 350 children require the use of these specialist stretchers which cost $36,000 each.

Once again our supporters and those of the other 39 teams came up trumps. In total funds raised came to an outstanding $134,000. A truly outstanding achievement and well in excess of our goal.

If you have a classic mini, some free time and a sense of adventure then this is the event for you. All being well the next GBPP will be in 2013. Check out the gallery bellow to see what you are missing.
